What to Wear for Beach Pictures – Family
What to wear for beach pictures doesn’t have to be super complicated. My best tips can be boiled down to a few tips:
-Start with mom
-Decide on 2-3 colors
-Add neutrals
1- Start with Mom
I always tell Moms to start with themselves, because I just feel it makes the process a lot easier. Once Mom has picked out a dress or outfit that she feels comfortable and confident in, the rest of the family's outfits can be chosen from there.
Mom, if you find a gorgeous dress with a print, go off that dress for your color palette. If you started off choosing everyone else's outfits, then you have already boxed yourself into a corner as far as what you can wear that you feel good in. Once you have your stand-out piece and have chosen your outfit, then build out your color scheme from there to create a nice, cohesive look within the family.

2- Decide on 2-3 Colors
Light Pinks, Baby Blues, Mint and Sage Hint Green, and other pastel colors are my favorite colors to choose for beach photos. In my opinion, pastel colors always look so soft and photograph so well on the beach. Choose dresses and tops that are lightweight and flowy, moving easily with the ocean breeze. Long flowy dresses, long skirts with flowy tops, even jeans for a more classic look if you'd like would all be great choices for beach outfit ideas.
3- Add Neutrals
Whites, Navy, Charcoal, Tans, Khakis, Denims and Grays are great neutrals for dads and children to incorporate into their outfit to give a cohesive look to the family and always look nice along the ocean and sand backdrop.
What To Avoid For Beach Photos
I would avoid any low-cut tops, skirts and dresses that are above the knee (hello South Florida wind!), all black shirts, dresses or pants, tennis shoes, stiff or tight dresses, and baby doll dresses. The South Florida wind can definitely be a factor in the outcome of your family beach photos, so I think these are just a few things to consider. I would also stay away from large logos that can be very distracting and loud patterns that may not photograph well.

A long flowy dress tops the list
Wide leg linen pants or trouser
Midi dress with movement
Avoid: stiff material, tight fighting anything, low cut necklines
What to Wear for South Florida Beach Photos Ideas for Dad
Dad is pretty simple. The hardest part for my husband is finding something he hasn’t already been photographed in!
Button up
Polo
Henley T-shirt
Flat front khaki shorts
Relaxed chino pants
Linen pants
Avoid: cargo shorts, white tee shirts
What to Wear for South Florida Beach Photos – Ideas for Girls
If you can get her in a dress, do it! Same rules apply though – nothing short or too low cut. For tween and teen girls, its especially important to avoid baby doll dresses. The wind alone may blow her skirt up!

Maxi dress
Leggings & tunic
Avoid: Baby doll dresses, tight or stuff fabrics
What to Wear for South Florida Beach Photos – Ideas for Boys
Beach photo clothing ideas for boy are similar to Dad, but they can go a more relaxed on the cargo shorts
Button up
Polo
henley shirt
flat front shorts
Relaxed chino pants
Avoid: sweat pants, athletic shorts, character shirts
Tips for South Florida beach photos with kids:
Make sure kids are well-rested and well-fed before the photo shoot for a smoother, happier experience
Bring a snack and water in case they want to have a little snack break
